RACE TRAINING

Mark Pavlus will again be running the Adult Race Training Program at West Mountain on Tuesday evenings beginning January 8th. Cost is $22. Ticket is from 5 to 10. We can run the gates beginning at 8. Mark will be coaching.

SKI RACING INFORMATION

The mechanics of participating are simple. You need to be able to ski down an intermediate trail and be able to turn around gates (or if you feel that you may be careening out of control and the next gate looks to be miles away and you are sure that within a nano breath of a second you will be breaking the sound barrier you may sneak in a quickie edge between the gates to slow yourself down. This technique is not recommended but has been seen to happen.)

We've 3 to 4 races a year, and we race against other ski clubs in the area, the two big ones being the Out of Control Ski club and the Albany Ski Club.

In the league, we've about 6 to 12 juniors racing each race, and about 50 to 60 adults, all of varying ability. Some of the racers are very fast and some of us, feel fast, feel very fast, feel like we must be seen as a mere blur on the course; our times, however, tell us otherwise.

There is no time commitment, only what you want to put in. Some of us make all 4 races, some only one; some of us help out gate keeping, some help out with the after race party. Oh, yes! Always, an after race party.

We ask that you register for the races, which are held on Sunday, by the Tuesday before because we have to make up the list. Races are held at various mountains, usually one at Gore, one at West, and one at either Whiteface or Mount Snow, and maybe one at Stratton. Talk this year is that only three races will be held due to the cost of putting them on.

On Tuesday evenings all of us, from all the clubs, train together at West Mountain, under Mark Pavlus, who is a great racer, one of our league’s best, as well as a great teacher.

On October 20, please join us at the Accolades of Praises party. This is where we, the SWC Alpine team, get together pre-season and tell each other how great we are, regardless of just how great we are.
