Interested in learning how to paddle (kayak, canoe, SUP)? Maybe you would just like a chance to enjoy the water and the camaraderie that goes along with it. We have just the opportunity for you. Now that the major construction is done at Kiwanis Park in Rotterdam Junction and the water on the Mohawk is rising, Monday night paddling can begin on May 18, 2026. We gather at 6:00 for a 45-60 minute paddle beginning at 6:30, then enjoy each other's company afterwards. Bring some snacks/beverages to share. Bring your own human-powered watercraft and PFD or call Kim at 518-421-2939 by Sunday of each week and she and Ed can bring equipment.

SWC Annual Picnic

and Autumn Quarterly Meeting

When: Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 10am-dusk

Where: Peebles Island State Park, 1 Delaware Avenue North, Cohoes, NY 12047.

What: The plan is to have lunch catered! FREE! SWC will provide non-alcoholic beverages. We ask that each member bring either a dessert, an appetizer or a snack.

Who: All members, their children and guests are welcome at the Annual SWC picnic. There is no charge for the picnic other than your food contribution.

Action requested: Because we will be using a caterer, it is important we have an accurate count of attendees. Please register with the names of each attendee. If you know what food you would like to bring, please include that as well so that we don’t end up with five trays of crudité and dip!

Peebles Island State Park is at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers. It offers spectacular river and rapids views for walkers and joggers who take advantage of the miles of paths through the gently rolling and wooded landscape.

Surrounded by two rivers, there are many opportunities to paddle and float. We plan to bring the Club canoes and kayaks so that anyone who wants to paddle may. Please bring your own watercraft, paddles and PFDs as well. We have reserved the only picnic pavilion for the day.

I'll be turning my sights towards the High Peaks Wilderness for this one. Already having planned to be in the area for the Oktoberfest at Whiteface, might as well climb up a big lump of pretty rocks, too! The plan is to hike Algonquin, and maybe Wright or Iroquois. This will require an early arrival at Heart Lake, as it is typically very busy that time of year.

Lastly, a closer hike with great views (especially for the fall foliage) is Good Luck Lake and Cliffs in Arietta, NY. I was thinking a mid-morning start should give us plenty of time to enjoy the 3 mile round trip journey and still have time to visit one of the many apple orchards on the way back through Gloversville!

Since 1932, the Schenectady Wintersports Club has thrived because members stepped up, pitched in, and made things happen. This fall, we’re keeping that spirit alive at the Maple Ridge Fall Festival on October 10 (9:00 AM–4:00 PM).
