The paddlers are paddling, the hikers are hiking, the bikers are biking and, if you venture to VT, the Clubhouse is ready for your visit.
Following many months of extensive research, contract negotiation and contractor coordination the major jobs on our codes violation list have been addressed and corrected. The final inspection has been completed leaving only a few minor punch list items to finish. Some of the improvements are somewhat behind the scenes providing safety upgrades, but not much in the way of aesthetics. Others are very noticeable and, not only improve functionality but are attractive as well. During the past month there were two work weekends when many details were buttoned up and the Clubhouse was returned to order. During those weekends many SWC members were generous with both their time and their talents.
Steve Dudka worked quietly (because that’s his style) on several electrical projects and added his skills to carpentry projects. Barry Cain (man of many talents) contributed artistry as a painter, installer of curtain rods (because he’s tall) and reconstructor of furniture. Jill Hayes and Mary McAndrews debuted as painters who don’t quit. You’ll be impressed with the results of their efforts when you visit next. Denise Hobson worked tirelessly, at her sewing machine, to combine portions of old dining room curtains with new fabric. The end result is spectacular. Frank Pouliot had only one overnight available to join us, but moved his paint roller with the speed of light to transform rooms 24 and 25. Bill Simmons arrived with his workshop on wheels and worked on several projects, with the completion of a beautiful tongue and groove ceiling in the entrance area being the most noticeable. Finally, drum roll please…….Don Streed, Tony Calvagno and Bill Romania are absolute project heroes. Tony labored many hours researching, comparing and fine tuning the requirements of our whole house alarm system. His professional expertise garnered a system and installer who worked efficiently to provide us with a system to feel confident about. Bill Romania has dedicated countless days at the Clubhouse to meet with contractors and oversee work as it was being done. While there he is never idle always finding something that needs repair or painting. Oh, by the way, Bill also happens to prepare fabulous dinners for all to enjoy. Lastly Don Streed has been a superior project manager!! Pulling the details together for a 35 point project is not for the faint of heart and Don did it masterfully.
All of these amazing members work for the good of SWC and a “thank you” seems so inadequate. To show your appreciation I ask that every member consider volunteering for a work weekend or perhaps consider a monetary contribution in lieu of labor. It’s all needed and appreciated.
