President's Column

Member John Rack invested many years as the President of the Mohawk Valley Hiking Club. Under his leadership the Hiking Club had it’s own newsletter and a very active group who regularly hiked together. How do I know this? John hosted a picnic at Kiwanis Park a couple of weeks ago and I met many of these hikers. Lively group that share memories of their excursions of years past, even if they don’t venture very far on the trails any more.
Work is still continuing on the extension of the Northern terminus of The Long Path into the village of Altamont. Groups of volunteers under the direction of Steve Seigard will have the steps completed leading off the escarpment to a kiosk in Orsini Park very soon. There are Fall hikes planned by the Long Path North Club, which I’ll be able to expand on next month.
Enjoy your time on a trail, whether cleaning it for other hikers, or just taking in the quiet of a walk in the woods.
